Construction

13th Jan 2020

Construction helps children to learn through developing:

  • Creativity.
  • Problem Solving skills
  • Fine Motor skills
  • Cooperative play and
  • Hand-Eye coordination.

Creativity

By helping a child to think creatively, it helps the brain to look beyond a one directional way of thinking. If a child understands the importance of thinking differently when undertaking a task, they may be able to transfer this skill later in life.

Problem Solving

Trial and error is a great method in which to create structures and modify methods.  Overcoming problems to build structures, promotes creative thinking and problem solving skills.

Fine Motor Skills

As a child moves, walks or stretches to build their constructive piece, they strengthen their gross motor skills.  Developing small muscles in hand and fingers will help to hone fine motor skills and therefore making the body more complete and developed.

Cooperative Play

Construction play helps children to cooperate with each other to complete a task.  Passing objects to each other and sharing a space cooperatively. By doing this children will strengthen their social skills and may become better team players.

Hand-Eye coordination

Children use hand-eye construction whenever they build or construct.  As they start to build, a child’s eye sends visual information, the brain generates instructions, forming the hand to move in order to create appropriate shapes.
